Being so close to the border of Hampshire and Berkshire, you have coastlines, cities, history, and adrenalin-fuelled activities all within an hour.
Historic Homes & Castles
We are genuinely lucky to have such a wonderful array of history surrounding us. Order a picnic to go and head off to explore, bringing history to life at some of the most beautiful Homes and Castles.
Enjoying a great selection, between 15 – 40 minutes distance from us, we are blessed with outstanding places of interest, including the ruins of Odiham Castle, otherwise known as St. John’s Castle, Winchester Cathedral, Westgate and The Great Hall, Highclere Castle, which is a popular attraction for Downton Abbey admirers, Windsor Castle, it’s famous Long Walk and Windsor Great Park, The Vyne, Chawton House and so much more.

Given our passion for all things food and drink, it’s only natural that we would highlight and shout about some of the most amazing producers and creators of award-winning gins, wines, and ales that are situated so near to us.
Whether you prefer a full day of tasting, in style, with Grape & Grain Tour or you prefer to visit just one, you’ve got some of the very best in the business to choose from.
If you’re a big Gin fan, you absolutely will be in your element; from Gorilla Distillery, Winchester Distillery, and Bombay Sapphire to Hogmoor Distillery and Silent Pool. They each have a myriad of experiences and tours to purchase.
For sparkling wine, you won’t be disappointed! Not only do we have the world-famous Hattingly Valley Vineyard and Albury Organic Vineyard, but also award-winning Stanlake Park Estate, and Greyfriars Vineyard.
Owned by Red Mist, we are passionate about our beers and ale, especially given our close-bond with Tilford Brewery who brew seasonal, award-winning beers, especially for our pubs. Should you be looking for a day out to quaff the golden nectar, then it goes without saying that Hogsback Brewery and family-owned Andwell Brewery are simply a must! Others include Windsor & Eton Brewery and Surrey Hills Brewery.
Activities, come rain or shine
Whether you’re bringing the whole family, treating the kids to a school holiday’s night away, or celebrating with friends; there’s plenty to do, come rain or shine.
Make hay, whilst the sun shines. With Legoland, Thorpe Park, and Paulton’s Park all less than 50 minutes drive, you can easily do a full day of hair-raising themed rides. Not a thrill-seeker? Nip up the road to Beale Park for a family friendly day of wildlife. Head to the South coast beaches, go fruit picking (seasonal), and visit the nearby National Trust site, West Green Gardens. Or, head to the skies with Go Ape’s high-ropes followed by a delightful walk around the Alice Holt forest.
On days when it’s raining country cats and dogs, there’s a whole array of virtual experiences and indoor activities within 20 minutes drive, such as iFly Indoor Skydiving, Chimera VR, and Escape Rooms, to more calming options including Spa Days, Afternoon Tea, and Pottery Painting.
Plus, did you know, that one of our neighbouring villages, Hartley Wintney, is considered a Mecca for Antiques? If you’re a lover of hunting down unique gems, then you mustn’t leave without visiting. Recommendations include Deva Antiques, Hartley Antiques, Grahame Dobinson Antiques, and White Lion Antique Centre.
Festivals
We like to think that we’ve got a great location, and when you see such great music events taking place, all within 30 minutes of us, we think you’ll agree!
Enjoy, then escape, the madness of festival life, by coming home to roost, here at The Wellington Arms for a joyously hot, luxurious shower, relax in the folds of your luxurious, boutique room, before joining us for a triumphant meal with all the trimmings in our gastro pub.
